By the last week of September, the Amalfi coast is finally itself again. The day-charter fleet has thinned. The water has held its summer warmth. The light, for two hours either side of sunset, is the light that everyone tries to photograph in July and never quite captures.
We arrange most of our Amalfi anniversaries and second-wedding ceremonies in these weeks. The same is true of Capri and the smaller bays of the Sorrentine peninsula.
If you have the flexibility to travel late, take it. The coast belongs to the people who do.
