There is a particular evening on Wolfgangsee, in early June, when the lake stops moving altogether. The forest on the far shore turns the colour of old brass. Boats slow without being asked. It is the evening, more than any other, that our couples ask us to find for their wedding.
We begin twelve months in advance. The vessel is selected first — almost always a small classic motor yacht built for the lake, with a long open deck and a quiet engine. The officiant is chosen next, then the chef, then the florist, then the musician. Only after those five people are confirmed do we walk the route with the captain.
On the day, we set a single long table on the deck. The ceremony happens at anchor. The lantern that lights the centrepiece is the same brass lantern lit at dinner. Nothing is moved between the two; nothing is announced.
The wedding ends when you decide it does. The crew is briefed not to suggest otherwise.
